And YES!  You CAN eat chocolate on a low carb diet!  Of course, you need to find a sugar-free chocolate that uses a low carb sweetener.

Chocolate  Chocolate is a common ingredient in many kinds of sweets -- one of the most  popular in the world -- made from the fermented, roasted, and ground seeds of  the tropical cacao tree Theobroma cacao. 

History of chocolate  The Aztecs associated chocolate with Xochiquetzal, the goddess of fertility. In  the New World, chocolate was consumed in a drink called xocoatl, often seasoned  with vanilla, chili pepper, and pimento.

Chocolate facts  Most people enjoy chocolate and agree that it tastes wonderful, yet they also have misconceptions about its effect on health. Here are some facts about chocolate that you may not know.

Health benefits of  chocolate  Good news. Research says you can have your cake and eat it, too. As long as that cake is chocolate.  Chocolate contains vitamins A, B1, C, D, and E, as well as potassium, sodium, iron, and fluorine. Now, researchers say those creamy chocolate confections may actually help us live longer, too.

Dark chocolate  If your diet is making you a humbug this season, there’s some good news. Turns out dark chocolate, that decadent confection, may actually be good for you! So just for fun, I thought I’d conduct a mini-research project of my own and get the “skinny” on our friend dark chocolate. Here’s some of the interesting “factoids” I came up with.

Low carb chocolate recipes - the beginning of our low carb chocolate recipes section.   Yes, you CAN have chocolate on a low carb diet!  Unsweetened chocolate and cocoa are quite low in carbs.  So the secret of  low carb chocolate recipes is to keep the other ingredients low carb as well - eg use low carb sweeteners and flours.
